40 South Street
Jamaica Plain, MA

40 South Street is a sweet little gem in Jamaica Plain that features vintage clothing, accessories, shoes and local handmade jewelry. I first started shopping at 40 South Street in 2009 and I never leave empty handed or disappointed. No shopping regrets here, only duds you will rock for years to come! Hilken Mancini began her journey with 40 (formerly known as Gumshoe) with only a small section selling women’s vintage clothing in the early 2000s. Only a few years later she bought Gumshoe and turned it into 40 South Street, her very own vintage clothing palace. Every time I go into 40 there are always good jams playing, including local ones. I personally find that to be a perk for the most excellent shopping experience. Good tunes, good clothes, and good vibes. Hilken is a busy woman and a supporter of her community. Other than providing us with the best digs around AND playing in two ever-so-rocking bands, she also runs the inspiring Girls Rock Camp. Though 40 is extremely lady-friendly, there is also a very awesome men’s vintage section and some children’s options as well! South Street is full of cool shops. So after you pick up some weirdo noise tapes at Deep Thoughts, and grab a delicious Killer Tofu sandwich at Fiore’s, make sure to stop by 40 South Street for something that will definitely tie the outfit together.
