In honor and anticipation of his next movie, PAIN AND GLORY, the Coolidge and El Planeta are partnering to present Cine Almodóvar, a selection of films from acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar. And while it is no simple task to pick only a handful of Almodóvar films out of the director’s prolific filmography, the Coolidge and El Planeta have together selected an exquisite range of films that showcases Almodóvar’s work from the late 1980’s to the early 2000’s.
Cine Almodóvar begins with the queer melodrama LAW OF DESIRE (9/3), moving next to screwball comedy WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN (9/17), then to the iconic ode ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER (9/24), and finally culminating with an unsettling drama, TALK TO HER (10/1). The series provides a glimpse not just into the director’s long-term focuses—queer characters, women-centered stories, and culebrón motifs—but also the ways in which Almodóvar’s lens has refined and evolved over the course of a decade.
For both newcomers and Almodóvar-philes alike, Cine Almodóvar is an exciting platform to experience the director’s work on the big screen.
