Boston Counter-Cultural History – Illustrated
It’s been over a year since our very own radical historian Neil Horsky began his This Month in Boston Counter-Cultural History series in the Compass (pg. 3). Now we’ve teamed up to produce an illustrated calendar for 2015 with all proceeds to benefit this, your cultural rag. The calendar features 12 full-page artworks, each beautifully crafted by a different artist, interpreting stories from Boston’s rich counter-cultural past. You can celebrate Boston’s creative activist legacy while supporting the current movement at the same time! Look for your 2015 calendar later this month at Aviary, Deep Thoughts and other sympathetic retailers.

Jamaica Plain’s radical, non-profit bookstore and community space is having an OPEN HOUSE PARTY on Tuesday, December 9th from 6-9pm. Let’s keep it direct and still be friends though. Behold, Lydia Lunch, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks’ siren! She will vocalize alluringly in the plentiful-waved Ocean State. Her latest piece: Horribly True Confessions is a text-based multi-media experience with Weasel Walter (The Flying Luttenbachers) keeping time on drums. Go there! You’re Crazy – True Stories From The Punk Scene
“You’re Crazy” is an ongoing series of books featuring first-hand accounts of punk rockers who deal with mental health struggles, addiction and trauma. Volume One has 27 stories from around the world. Volume Two is currently in the works and stories are now being collected for Volume Three. Editor Craig Lewis is available to speak in the community about mental health recovery, his life in the punk scene and his struggles and successes in becoming happy, healthy and well. Music Under the Moon in Wormtown
Boston is full of more incredible underground radio than any city in the USA. Here’s one deep dip you might have missed: Music Under the Moon on Worcester’s WCUW. Every Tuesday from 9-midnight is a radio show that makes the wild stuff scurry out from the shadows. Old vinyl that is both very experimental and very scratchy, live performances, intensely obscure cassette projects from today or days of yore.
