Central Square is packed to the brim with electronic-focused dance nights – from techno-focused Make It New and drum and bass stalwart Elements, radio-friendly kids night Heroes and a whole host of others. But in the frenzy of dance nights its easy to overlook RIVERGODS, that unassuming corner restaurant leering out onto River St. One of the best nights there ZODIAK – an eclectic affair focused on challenging expectations. They mix the seedy underbelly of disco, reaching out through kosmiche planes, astral funk rifts, warped house and into the interstellar depths end of experimental dance music. Resident DJs DJ WON’T (SCANNERS) and EVERYDAYISAMIXTAPE take turns weaving disparate, semi-obscure styles in a mad professor approach to combustible, unexpected grooves. They’ll be some mixtapes available for the early birds, so get on it.
