WZBC FLYWEIGHT & ILLEGALLY BLIND: HELIOTROPES, GHOST MODERN, SLEEP STUDIES, JAPANESE MONSTER @ TT’S

by

The masterminds at WZBC Flyweight and Illegally Blind have teamed up to bring you this raging Friday night bacchanalia at TT The Bear’s Place! The Brooklyn boomers in Heliotropes (Manimal Vinyl) list “Magic” as a band influence – it must be true, because these ladies sling a 60’s stoner crossover that’s devilishly catchy, full of slinking bass and jangly acoustic guitar. Ghost Modern sounds like you’ve died and awoken in post-punk heaven; big, booming male vox pair with gentle female vox, lacing and out of spacey synth drones and light, pulsing drumwork. Sleep Studies, on the other hand, might pull you into dreamy shoegaze Purgatory with its gently screeching feedback and eerily light-stepping vocals. Topping it all off is Japanese Monster: crunchy, meaty synth pushes these dancey post-punk jams forward, and straight 90s guitar riffs bridge the gap between the 80’s vibes and the modern electro influence. Tear up your movie tickets, cancel your fancy-ass reservations – do whatever you need and get out to this killer show!
