GRAND OPENING: Tru Love @Sweety’s (South End)

by

This looks to be exactly the kind of place we <3. Four young Latino artists (Julia Pimes, Bryan Rodriguez, Ximena Izquierdo Ugaz, and Eduardo Restrepo) band together to start a gallery/cultural arts center in a tiny space just off the Harrison St. Art-Strip in the South End? Magic! With teeth that scratch the parquet, these ambitious friends aim to animate the local art scene in a full-on populist way. According to their credo, they will feature Art in all it’s various incarnations, promoting confrontation and risk-taking and prioritize the underrepresented. So come out to celebrate this incarnation of TRU LOVE, with performances from Andisa Jones, Santiago Cardenas and Branden Paillant, plus six local folk will contribute the first pieces to grace wall and shelf. Many of us here at ‘Boston Hassle’ are already big fans of Santiago Cardenas whose playful drawings have not only graced the pages of ‘The Compass’, but also ‘zines, flyers and tape covers all throughout the local music scene. Pop-verter Martin Kass brings a similar sensibility to bears (pun intended). Daniel Barreto and Oskar Brent Malone both work betwixt photo and video worlds. Daniel produces animated GIF’s which unlock the secret gmuetlichkeit inherent within otherwise ordinary scenes, while Oskar either seizes upon moments of incidental poetry, or stages them. Lastly, short-form video works from Adrielle Farr and Branden Paillant will be on display.
