Sometimes ya gotta go out to get out. From that pointless adage you should take away one simple, overriding truth: one doesn’t usually uncover new worlds or states of being while hanging out at home in one’s underwear. Not to say it doesn’t happen. It just doesn’t happen often. Probability, man. A great opportunity to break from the routine of thinking otherwise presents itself this evening at Deep Thoughts in JP. Tom Carter (formerly of Texas psych group Charalambides) is a guy who takes an electric guitar, plugs it into an amp, and then does some stuff to it that will make you question what the guitar is even there for. Prepare yourself for waves of drone, sparkle, and all out shredding that will probably change your mind about everything. Kyle Eyre Clyd similarly applies sound to space, pawing for catharsis (or not) through a dark tunnel of texture and samplage that smells like the sweat of a scared animal. LAIR (ex-Arvid Noe) will be there to summon whatever else is inside you with their gnarly and percussive incantations. All bases are covered. Whatever’s left has yet to be discovered.
