Feel like some folk-rock to warm you up in this new fall chill? Well you’re just in luck, ‘cuz The Murdock Manor is putting on one hell of a folk show tonight at Middle East Upstairs! Grey Season smears together bouncing banjo, acoustic riffs, and searing rock tones to make some truly energetic, eclectic tunes. Anjimile lies somewhere between Defiance, Ohio and Feist; chorale-like backing vocals anchor poppy, playful acoustic tunes ribboned with smooth-and-smoky vocals. The award for ‘Best Band Name’ has to go to Box of Birds; beyond crafting interesting monikers, this trio is also adept at blending Modest-Mouse-influenced guitar riffs with jangly acoustic chords and almost airy drumtracks, then layering their songs with mesmerizing male/female vocal harmonies. And We Avalanche fuse bluesy waltzes with haunting echoed vocals as mandolins flurry and cellos swell in the background. Get out to the Middle East and savor some foot-tappin’, porch-stompin’ folk-rock!
