Do you know about The Democracy Center? This unassuming one story house near the heart of Harvard Square is one of the last buildings not directly owned by Harvard. They’re a privately owned, collectively run community space that advocate for a variety of ‘alternative’ causes, including hosting all ages music events. We held one day of this years New England Underground Music Fest there, and it was pretty awesome. A worthy spot to check out on any day.
Early TONIGHT, the Democracy Center plays host to new band showcase showcase. Feast your ears on some local up and coming bands that identify with the punk and hardcore aesthetic/ethos/sound. Bands include SUNSHINE WARD, gut punch groovers LEATHER DADDY (great band name btw), KNIVES, ANIMAL MOTHER, rock’em sock’em bruisers NEGATIVE IMPULSE and SPITTING EARTH. All new bands, all good vibes.
If that ain’t enought for ya, come back tomorrow (Sunday 12/22) for the Punk Rock Flea Market. Peruse a wide selection of handmade B&W zines about privilege and empowerment, dig through stacks of small batch punk 45’s from many New England labels, gaggle at patches perfect for that spikey jacket, all that fun stuff. Its a partial benefit for Papercut Zine Library, Boston’s leading purveyor of liberated self-expression through print.
So come discover this All Ages delight, support the local punk economy and get in the DIY mood.
