Righteous fest alert! Get on down to the Cambridge YMCA in Central Square TONIGHT for the first night of SMASH IT DEAD. Now in its fourth year, SMASH IT DEAD is a radical, all-inclusive 3-day music fest that uses punk rock as a vehicle to spread awareness and start discussions about sexual assault, safe spaces and how to responsibly rock out. It is also a fundraiser for the crucial Boston Action Rape Crisis Center.
Tonight’s soundtrack paralells the philosphy underpinning the fest: assertive, energetic, and empowering. The lineup includes Los Angeles’ disjointed spunkers NEONATES, affectionate pop punk doodlers GIRLCRUSH (NY), gripper oi rippers PEEPLE WATCHIN, soft summer pop crooner CRABAPPLE (CA), and to top it all off – sonic whirlwind of ecstatic horns and shouts that is DOWNTOWN BOYS (Pvd)! Its all very exciting.
So stop by, expand your awareness, throw your body around a bit, and add your voice to the chorus singing out against chauvinism, prejudice, ignorance and passivity. And dont, worry – if ya can’t make it tonight, the fest continues all weekend long.
