Treat Yo Self TONIGHT and scurry to Allston to see Shannon and the Clams serve up psychedelic garage rock out of Oakland. They put a rough edge on influences like 60’s girl groups and beach rock, and complete with teased up 60’s beehive hairdo’s – they leave you to doubt whether you’re really in 2013. Vocalist and bassist Shannon Shaw is also a “punkette” in the band Hunx & His Punx, lamenting about young love and bad skin. Shannon and the Clams might be a bit more grown up, but are just as dreamy and romantic.
Straight outta Allston, The Fagettes compliment the Clams perfectly with their brash, howlin’ bravado and trash punk style. They shared stage as Shannon Shaw in August, opening up for Hunx & His Punx just across the street at Brighton Music Hall.
Also, Providence’s Atlantic Thrills will spin their bright, pop-leaning garage rock so fast it’ll make you wish it weren’t almost freezing up here in the Northeast – but hey, braving the cold will be absolutely worth it tonight to catch this sunshine-y show at Great Scott.
