Ryan Harrison (Salty Speakers) keeps summoning a wide array of cool to Portsmouth NH, and tonight is no different, with a nice pairing of Boston bands with Portsmouth locals.
On the Boston side, post-hardcore punks Grass is Green dig on crunchy, rhythmically disorienting riffs and bass-heavy, caterwauling rhythms. Also traveling from the Hub are stoned slop punks Idiot Genes. They play loose and fast garage that throbs through your head and drips down your throat.
On the Portsmouth side, Comma offer grinding, spastic rock with an instrumental bent and a sci-fi feel reminiscent of a Dick novel. Fellow locals New Legs, featuring singer-guitarist Blake Seale, channel 90’s emo (with a touch of the Replacements) to round out this sweet billing.
And, like all Salty Speakers shows each Thursdays at The Red Door, you can count on $3 beers and well drinks.
