These Philadelphia noise conjuring trouble makers are out of the recent past, but the past never the less. They burned brightly and then disappeared back around the turn of the century amidst the heady noise rocking days of yore. They put out three great, fun and weird records on a couple of different labels, including 5RC. Need New Body’s second album UFO is all over the place(and at 23 tracks you can believe it!) but really hits its stride when the band’s manic exhuberence wholly takes the spotlight. “Hotshot” is an out of control meld of pop bounce, chanting, and noise. “Popfest” starts with the rhythm section just locking in and then the vocals join and repeat forever. All the while there’s blasts of jarring noise winding between the groove. It all comes off like some popfunk recording sesh going down in an active factory setting. “Show Me Your Heart” is the true showstopper of the record. Primitive electronics meet incessant drum beat and a very strange pop art sensibility. This band and this record especially is probably going to be deemed really important at some point in the future, I’m telling you. Members went on to be in Man Man and Icy Demons. Have a weird dance party with this.
