Ryan is many things. If this world were just, he’d be Ryan the Amazing or Ryan the Fantastic, but his humility won’t allow it, so RYAN THE TERRIBLE it is. In any case he really outdid himself once again putting this Sunday bill together at everybody’s favorite underdog bar, OBRIEN’S. Headlining the program will be OBN III’S , all the way from Austin, TX, though they sound more like they hail form Detroit in 1972. They play the straight-up, cathartic, rollicking, rock and roll that sometimes is credited with saving souls. Solid, churning, distorted bass with driving drums and wailing guitars lay the foundation for the spoke-shouted vocals about life and ladies, plus the occasional burning harmonica accompaniment. Next up, DAN WEBB AND THE SPIDERS will be showcasing some of their new material and their brand new rhythm section. Having poached some of the best parts of Allston staples, LUAU and FURNACE, DWatS is heavier and tighter than ever. GYMSHORTS continues their incredible run of east coast shows with this Boston appearance. They bring a lot of energy to not giving a fuck, with their cool attitude dripping from their blasted-out core. Their mix of laconic smooth vocals against nerve-shattering reverb-drenched guitar solos is quite an intoxicating combo. THEE LEGENDARY ROCKING PROPHETS will round out the bill with their whiskey-soaked rambling and harmonica infused brand of soul stomp. If it were 1968 and you just stole a Cadillac to go pick up your girlfriend, this is what you’d want on the radio when you pulled up. Allston, prepare yourself for another “Terrible” time.
