Eerie one for ya TONIGHT in Central Square. Non-Event, those perennial purveyors of thoughtful and challenging music in the electro-acoustic miasma of contemporary currents, joins up with The Doc Yard, Balagan Films and WZBC to reach deep and retrieves the highly regarded Robert A. A. Lowe (aka Lichens) to perform haunting and daunting pieces. Lowe’s approach focuses on the spontaneous, pairing voice and modulated synth patterns in subtly shifting tonal modulations to create spell-binding performances that are always singular and compelling. Joining him is friend and frequeent collaborator Ben Russell, a visual artist explores our common relationship to signs (aka semiotics) and moving images, simulateanously seeking transcendence through visual media and analyzing this process and need. Heady stuff, but one that doesn’t require a PhD to experience.
