The MIDDLE EAST in Central Square is putting on a special Monday night show that promises to cleanse your mind and soul in preparation for the week ahead. UPSTAIRS TONIGHT there will be a percussion performance of an extraordinary strain: the long-form, polyrhythmic, workout trances of MAN FOREVER. Emanating from the gifted, focused mind of Kid Millions (Oneida, People of the North, general improvisational insanity), MAN FOREVER sees Millions crafting deeply layered, minimalist-influenced tracks that bubble constantly with percussion activity. On his most recent release, ‘Ryonen,’ help is added by the incredible percussion ensemble, SO PERCUSSION, who are known for their renditions of compositions from such revered figures as John Cage and Steve Reich. They’ll be joining Millions for this entire tour, forming a dizzying, intricate wall of rhythm for you to take in.

Also taking the stage tonight will be Jamaica Plain resident Kevin Micka under his ANIMAL HOSPITAL moniker. The dense loops and strong, guitar-based melodies that Micka develops as ANIMAL HOSPITAL are a joy to hear unfold. Having recently taken his ideas into new territory with large ensemble performances as well, ANIMAL HOSPITAL remains tied to Micka’s ability to weave a few initial sonic events into an ever-evolving web of sounds with heaps of technical knowledge and imagination.

Opening up this bill in a crazy fashion will be DUST COMMANDER, aka solo-organ oracle Bobby Matador from Oneida. This man reaps (un)holy, enveloping swaths of sound from the keys with equal parts tenacity and care.

UPSTAIRS at THE MIDDLE EAST is the place to be if you want to make the most of your Monday night. This 3 act bill is gonna deliver from start to finish, so don’t miss out!
