Florida’s MERCHANDISE survived a brutal onslaught of positive press last year. Their roots in hardcore, sonic similarity to that grand wave of shoegaze revival and shimmering clear emotional depth couldn’t help but attract those maddening blog-hocking gadflies. Fortunately, the hype machine has turned its panoptic gaze away, and what’s left is a band true to its intentions and fans who resonate with their gripping, sprawling sound. Merchandise is touring with Providence playboys UKIAH DRAG, a blasted garage zombie, lumbering over broken tombstones to strangle you with a demented bent. Local hero’s of Western Mass, ZZONES (featuring John of Chelsea Light Moving) pins ya down and feeds ya with a steady drip of their psych rock stew with a side of hay.
There’s a lot of great concerts happening round town, but this one is hard to beat. So ditch that blind date and do something really worthwhile.
