JP’s grooviest record store DEEP THOUGHTS hosts a throbbing concatenation of art-beats and pop tonight starting with legendary punk drummer turned percussion experimentalist CHRIS STRUNK of TAPS who integrates drum and percussive objects to create acoustic circuits suitable for organic bending. The remaining part of the evening will feature evolutionary offshoots from influential Brooklyn band ONEIDA, the first being local NYC expats NURSE AND SOLDIER. Their arty electropop invokes playful and unsettling moods by expanding canonical pop-structures with hypnogogic repetition and spacey 70’s synth tones. Returning us to the rhythm, ONEIDA drummer John Colpitts/Kid Millions’ multicollaborative project MAN FOREVER, continues to push the percussive frontier, increasing both space and rhythmic complexity with each release, yet always achieving the mind-engaging effect of drone.
