LUAU, ALASKA (NV), TWIN CITIES (NV), DISTRICTS, SECOUÉ @ TT’S

by

For the second Monday in a row LUAU is bringing the heat. Last week they helped RAW BLOW bring their new EP into the world and this week they are heading up a killer bill at TT the Bear’s Place. This trio of Northshoremen take all the chops and brutality of heavy music and effortlessly reinterpret that energy within a pop framework. Synchronized guitar and vocal melodies over crushing bass and powerful drums are their signature sound. They grew up playing together and you can hear that in the originality and tightness on display. Also playing is a duo of bands touring up from Nevada. The first of these, ALASKA also live in the space between heavy and pop with an emphasis on different areas. Their foundation is a super tight, articulate rhythm section with undistorted, spacey guitars knotting up all over each other and duel scream-shouted vocals washing over the top. Coming with ALASKA is another band with geographic misnomer of a name, TWIN CITIES. They bring all the tightness and spacey arrangements of their NV brethren, but replace the screeching vocals with layers of harmony.

Injecting even more space, mood, and brutality into the mix is SECOUÉ. They mix long sustained tones, sweet, droning harmonies and other atmospheric elements with screeching, tortured vocals and huge crunching guitars. Rounding out the bill is DISTRICTS, with their busy maelstrom of frustration and plucky guitar lines. This genre-defying exploration of the heavy side of pop music is brought to you by the good folks at COACH & SONS OLDE TIME FAMILY BOOKING.
