LISTEN TO: WOUNDED LION

by

Released late last year on IN THE RED RECORDS, WOUNDED LION’s second full length IVXLCDM, is once again filled to the brim with proto-punk/garage rock jams guided to the listener by singer Brad Eberhard’s cryptic sloganeering in a Jonathan Richman/Greg Sage mode. Simple songs, yes, but the L.A. band has the rare-ish ability to get across an awful lot despite those simple musical
trappings. Simple and absurd and one of the better bands operating in the proto-punk style going today. IVXLCDM, like it’s self-titled predecessor is full of memorable choruses and melodies you just can’t escape. “Wyld Parrots” swirls around a mean sounding bass riff working with stabbing guitar and some vocals full of attitude directed at? “Oh Jim” adds a little organ to the mix as the songs rumbles off into the distance, droning long on chords giving Eberhard lots of space to emote. These guys must cause a party where they choose to go.
