OUT OF THE PAST(listen to): HUBBLE BUBBLE

by

The other day we posted about HUBBLE, the contemporary outer space guitar explorers, here on the Hassle. And so it goes, that got us thinking about HUBBLE BUBBLE, one of Belgium’s great punk exports. Maybe more mean power pop than punk, this band put out 2 records and then threw in the towel after their bass player’s death. Roger Junior, the band’s drummer went on to fame as Plastic Bertrand and the song “Ca Plane Pour Moi”, a song he didn’t actually write(or originally even sing, though he was credited with as much). HB’s s/t debut features a bunch of power pop jams and harder meaner punk tunes. “New Promotion” is a power pop classic with it’s whistled hook and insistent beat. “Pogo Pogo”, a chugging rock n roll stomper, that has no doubt inspired much of the titular dance in the 30 years since the track first appeared. Power pop nearer the punk end of the spectrum does not get much better.
