I first caught Montreal’s DUCHESS SAYS at a Bodies of Water show in the middle of the 00s playing with like minded post-punks, the great LES GEORGES LENINGRAD; them also of that same wonderful Eastern Canadian city, Montreal. Lost track of them, or they of me, either way here’s a new record from them IN A FUNG DAY T! Here in the now we find DUCHESS SAYS often rocking a decidedly new wave sound, albeit one with liberal amounts of fuzz mixed in. “Time To Reiterate” lets the bass step right up front with a slightly mutated “My Sharona” riff. This is catchy stuff that people who like to dance(especially to something like rock music)are going to LOVE. Song ends with a reminder that the rock still lives in this band. “S.O.H.” rides along a sequenced beat droning along amidst a downer rock vibe. I close my eyes and see strobing lights and people dancing together with wild eyes. Out on the long running Montreal label ALIEN8 Recordings. Come play Boston, you’re so close to us!
