LISTEN TO: DAN MELCHIOR UND DAS MENACE

by

Dan Melchior has been kicking out an increasingly further out garage pop for some time now. Originally of the British Isle, but now based in North Carolina, this man cranks out records quite consistently. I myself favor his record of a couple years back, OBSCURED BY FUZZ(download below), which came out on TOPPLERS RECORDS. Melchior now finds himself working with the, let’s just say it at this point, LABEL OF THE FUCKING YEAR, NORTHERN SPY RECORDS. A new record is out and it is called CATBIRDS AND CARDINALS. More fuzzy and a bit scuzzy psych pop from this garage pop winner who is one of the rare ones who hasn’t forgotten that if you are going to pull off some kind of pop music(even if it is covered in slime) then you have to worry about your melody and your choruses. And I can see Dan Melchior now, huddled in the corner, worrying away into the night. “English Shame” with it’s call and repsonse vocals, droning synth, clanging guitars, and bits of guitar solo is great lo-fi pop that is making me think about the Desperate Bicycles. Stock your collection with this guy’s records.
