One of the most successful bands going today at melding post-punk musical ideas and an up front pop sensibility, London’s CHAPTER 24 have provided us with a new single. SPINDLE / 4454 came out on ODD BOX RECORDS in December and it continues their toying with the aforementioned pop post-punk, spiked occasionally by a dollop of tropical guitar flair. SPINDLE clocks in at under 2 minutes but like most CHAPTER 24 songs it fits in a multitude of changes and odd hooks in that time. The rhythm guitar is noisy as hell here on this one as singer Claire sings and makes other mouth sounds. There’s a great drop about half way through(and at song’s end) which for a brief moment highlights the shimmering lead guitar and the workman -like bop of the bass. Fun, interesting, energetic as hell music from this crew who destroyed @ HOMEGROWN 3 last fall.
