OUT OF THE PAST(LISTEN TO): BLURT

by

BLURT is a post-punk/art punk/experimental music group that has existed since the late 70s in England. Saxaphonist Ted Milton has led the group since its inception and continues to lead them today(they put out a record last in 2010). BULLETS FOR YOU is the band’s 3rd LP. It is sax fronted post punk @ its bouncey fiercest, or maybe its fiercest bouciest? I’m not exactly sure. Here the band falls somwhere between CRASS and JAMES CHANCE, and its one of BLURT’s great records(DL it below). The first and best song on the record shares the record’s title. The song’s message is delivered by voice and echoed by sax, all over post punk as meanly funky as possible. One of the great sax riffs found within here. “Kill Time” brings some fuzzy guitars into the mix coming off as a rougher around the edges Gang of Four. The muppet-like group choruses are a trend I wish more contemporary bands were ripping off. “The Little Death” brings back the funk punk feel BLURT executes so well. Vocals veer between spoken and shouted, English and French. The sax is as always unhinged. Wild stuff that you can easily dance to if you had the mind too. Listen to BLURT.
