MISSION OF BURMA is playing @ Brighton Music Hall on 1/20 & 1/21. What’s to be said? Perhaps Boston’s most famously influential musical export(due respect to The MODERN LOVERS, GALAXIE 500, SIEGE, the PIXIES, etc.),MISSION OF BURMA is one of the truly essential girders on which a serious portion of modern underground rock sounds is built upon. Their aesthetic, pop inflected art punk based as much on attitude and feeling as on sound has given direction to so many other other influential bands(SONIC YOUTH, GUIDED BY VOICES, etc.) and in turn the glut of contemporary bands that those bands influenced, that BURMA is more or less universally heralded as, you know, what I said before. They won’t play forever, and becasue they actually still rep Boston(how awesome is that) you should really take the chance to go see them because even though they are now old, they still rip mightily, and actually continue to put out compelling records. Nuff sed.
