KAL MARKS, PILE, TOM BLACKLUNG, KRILL, SNEEZE @ CAMBRIDGE ELKS LODGE

by

Goddamn, what a show! This one’s gonna be a veritable meeting of the minds – get out an see five of Boston’s raddest local bands all on one ticket. Kal Marks (Exploding in Sound, Midnight Werewolf, Sophomore Lounge) spits crushing bluesy licks and thick chugging riffs like no other; they’re celebrating their return from tour AND the recent release of their newest LP Life is Murder, so expect an absolutely raucous show. Then there’s Pile (Exploding in Sound): these guys slip’n’slide in and out of key, slap you with crashing beats then fall into eery spells of reverence, and top it all off with gnarly lyrics about rotting teeth and butt-eating spiders. Tom Blacklung and The Smokestacks (Brooklyn) serve up a dark, noxious soup of sludge distortion, metal vocals, hip-hop drumbeats, and post-hardcore melodic riffs to make something entirely unique. Krill‘s Modest-Mouse-gone-garage aesthetic is built on spiraling verses and compound meter, sliced with stringy bass and howling emotive vocals. And Sneeze smashes together brittle grunge tone and high-energy drumbeats – the result is mind-numbingly good, screaming hot, and perfectly muddy. Get yourself out to Cambridge and tear into this killer lineup!
