JULY COMPASS: Notes From the Crew

by

I really hate summer. Apparently it’s so hot in Arizona that recycling bins are melting in the streets. I’m glad I don’t live in Arizona.

Anyway, even if you love summer, here’s a good reason to look forward to the fall: the next three Black Markets! Mark your calendars for September 17th, October 29th, and December 9th. It’s probably not fair of me to say that Black Market is my favorite event since I’m the vendor manager, but it is how I got involved with Boston Hassle. Approximately every two months, we collect a whole mess of cool artists of every kind and vendors with vintage clothes and records and books, shove them in the Elks Lodge, and invite everybody to come shopping with us. Like everything else we do it takes a whole lot of work and cooperation, and it’s always thrilling to have so many volunteers and vendors get together and make it happen.
And it’s not like there’s nothing to look forward to this summer until then. As we continue our programming for 2017 we would like to thank the Boston Foundation and the Live Arts Boston team for their support of our efforts. This month, thanks to LAB we’re bringing Lydia Lunch, spawn of NYC’s ‘70s No Wave scene. It’s very empowering to have grants to make experimental and all ages events happen in Boston! We can’t wait to announce the rest of the shows for this year!
