September 14th – Local Art Celebrations!

Save the date for a very special day in art history this month — SEPTEMBER 14! Firstly, it is the last day of Nick Cave’s “Augment” installation at the Boston Center for the Arts. This massive inflatable art piece is certainly one to witness, and luckily September 14 is the first day of its public journey to Uphams Corner, Dorchester where it will be installed at 555 Columbia Road as part of inPublic festival put on by DS4SI and Company One. Plus, it is a public journey that all are welcomed to participate in — it’s a PARADE, people!! Meet at the BCA at 11AM to be part of this joyous procession.

Once you get to Uphams Corner, the festivities continue! September 14 is ALSO the Uphams Art and Health Festival — meet local artists, as well as shop and learn about the intersection of art and health in ways you didn’t expect. There will also be music presented by BAMS Fest so that is reason enough to attend.

Lastly, there is indeed ANOTHER festival happening on this day a quick bus/bike ride away in Fields Corner! Tết Trung Thu or Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is a huge holiday in Vietnam. NOVA will be hosting their own version with games, entertainment and food vendors — and a Lantern Making competition that we are helping facilitate as Dorchester Art Project! AND there is a new gallery show opening 7-10pm that night at DAP. Wow, what a whirlwind of multiculturalism, art and appreciation for what’s real and local.
