Hey! Look who’s back! It’s JESUS VIO. You know Jesus. He was one of the heroes of FREE PIZZA, and before that CAMP HOPE. Boston had a good long love affair with Jesus. Then he split. But now he’s back, sorta, in Western MA, and it’s no surprise that his songwriting chops have not dulled. The most wonderful FEEDING TUBE RECORDS readies a new album of his for release, DUTCH SCIENCE. That will appear sometime in 2019, but in the here and now we have this cut “Eye To Eye” from that forthcoming release to hold in our hand; to poke with our finger. Vio brand ebullience is in full effect both in song and in video form. Jesus literally dances his way across the Pioneer Valley and through this video for “Eye To Eye.” The song bounces cheerfully along for its just under a minute & 40 seconds, piano pounding, violin pushing, drums pulsing, vocals soaring. and then bang it’s over. A swelling pop nugget appearing and then disappearing as if a shot of sunshine on an overcast afternoon. Is my appetite for fantastic underground pop whetted? Indeed it is! Video by Andrew Gibson.
