CAMP HOPE is a fairly new Boston area pop band. An initial demo by them was birthed into the world last fall, and slowly they have been showing up more and more on our/my radar. Featuring members of another beloved local diy pop band FREE PIZZA, CAMP HOPE have unleashed upon us a second demo, DEMO 2, containing a scant 3 songs. But here in these three songs we see a band arriving, a band with a keen but charmingly shaggy pop eye becoming more focused. The band’s four instruments create a quietly driving setting on which perch large and sweet vocal harmonies, moments of rapturous yelping, and other moments of hushed whispers. The second track from DEMO 2, “She!” is going to be a problem for you if you don’t like exhuberant lo-fi pop, rife with hooks, and wonderful interplay between guitar and piano. This is just kind of my favorite music in the world, and one that never gets old: simple rock structures featuring meanderingly sweet melodies that aren’t afraid to visit the crevices of their key. Delightful sounds from the pop underground.
