Illegally Blind has done it again: another show crammed to the gills with fresh sound. Guillermo Sexo (Midriff Records) slathers mesmerizing paired vocals over thick 90s-style guitar to craft a sound that’s bittersweet and wholly enjoyable. Slowdim‘s dreampop guitar lines jump from energetic to contemplative and back again, and the occasional mandolin or acoustic guitar bursts through their fuzzy mix like a jewel. Lidnsey Starr‘s got a hitch in her step – the upbeat drumlines and chunky, melodically inventive guitar provide the perfect platform for Lindsey’s velvety voice. And the dance-lord and -lady of Confessions (Vanya Records) weave together 8-bit synth tones and snappy 80’s dance beats for a walloping darkwave sound.
