Imagine this: a guy, inspired by listening to a lot of ’60s pop, gathers a gritty group of punks (maybe you’ll prefer to think of them as Punx) and makes a record called “Gay Singles”. You can probably imagine what that music would sound like– and that music is Hunx and his Punx, who will grace the stage at Brighton Music Hall TONIGHT. Three years after the release of “Gay Singles” and about a month after the release of “Street Punk” (Hardly Art), Hunx has acquired a cult following of sorts. Maybe that’s because he’s the only guy who can make nasal swagger sound oh-so sexy while pounding through greasy and increasingly punky little pop ditties.He also has a very worthwhile Twitter account. Tonight’s lineup is stacked: Hunters (NYC) will provide the fat and fuzzy post-rock, The Fagettes (Boston) have got that saccharine pop covered, and 2pretty will be…the enigma. So thank whatever god you follow that it’s Friday and get out to Brighton Music Hall this evening if you’re ready to sweat that work week off with some glorious rockin’ sounds.
