HONK! FEST @ DAVIS SQUARE, SOMERVILLE

by

There’s a Honk calling us to come to the street – protest social oppression and celebrate the freedom of musical expression in public spaces.

These weekend the streets are ours! There’s no division where the band ends and the audience begins. Everyone is together honking, drumming, dancing, singing and shouting – all in the name of public activism.

The 8th Annual HONK! Fest will reign over Davis Square and the surrounding area on Friday with the Day of Action– a campaign to raise the minimum wage, the Lantern Parades – Lantern making workshops and at Johnny D’s (17 Holland St, Davis Square, Somerville) with Honk! musicians performing from 8:00pm to midnight. Saturday is the official beginning of HONK! with the first horn blast, the HONK! Cantastoria, and the buzz and energy of more than 20 brass bands converging on 7 Hills Park in Davis Square, and then on Sunday at 12:30, the madness Parade will march from Davis Square in Somerville and go along Elm Street to Porter Square via Beech, then on down Massachusetts Avenue to Harvard Square when each band will have a brief set on the main stage of the Harvard Square Oktoberfest. Festivities will run until 9pm. A full schedule and the listing of all the performances can be found on the Honk website.

It is a free, volunteer-based event, so come celebrate the freedom to make some noise on the streets, no excuses for missing this one!
