Hot town summer in the city. And isn’t it a pity that there aren’t more opportunities for the people of the Boston area to experience live local music and performance in an outdoor setting! Well, we @ BRAIN Arts and Boston Hassle are DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Welcome to the first two concerts in our HERTER PARK @ NITE series, taking place on 9/12 & 9/19. Herter Park is one of the most beautiful parks one can find along the Charles River, and it’s within walking distance of both Harvard Square and Allston Village. And it’s all FREE and open to the general public.
On 9/12 we have Wax & Gold (members of Debo Band) a drum and sax duo who bring a big Ethiopian funk influenced sound with them wherever they go. Our second perfomer is S the Supplicant, a New England disco pop goddess with a singular voice who some might remember from the celebrated band Secret Lover. Lastly, the night’s first performers are underground pop upstarts The Water Cycle here representing Boston’s deep, and rich jangle pop scene.
On 9/19 we have Ed Balloon, offering up his avant RnB for the masses. He’ll be stoking your curiosity and next thing you know your dancing in the aisles. The night’s second perfomer is Tory Silver, who takes a fresh look at various strains of indie rock, pulling together some of the good ones, and leaving us with a beautiful batch of fuzzy tunes all her own. The first performer of the evening are another curious Boston band with a pop sound rooted in prog notions. Above Ground Basement they are called and some may call it grunge, or alternative rock, but I’d rather just call it good, dynamic, inventive songwriting.
This is a great chance for you to catch a thrifty glimpse of the Boston area’s unique, and flourishing independant music community!! Thanks to the fine folks @ the Harvard Flex Fund for making these show possible. Additional thanks to the Friends of Herter Park for their help in organizing this event and for their many efforts to restore this beautiful performance space.
