Guess what? The MBTA is now running service until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Really. This is already happening. We as a populace who are interested in the nightlife of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville (and beyond) need to vote with our feet on this. YOU, ME, WE need to ride the T late at night to support this initiative. The T tried late night service before, the Night Owl, back in the early to mid-2000s. But they botched it. Buses ran instead of trains, different stops were used in some cases. It was confusing. This is DIFFERENT. All of the T’s subway lines (including Green and Silver lines) and 15 bus routes (the 1, 15, 22, 23, 28, 32, 39, 57, 66, 71, 73, 77, 111, 116, and 117) will run later!!! Get the facts and plan accordingly.
We must remember our complaints about not being able to get home (for <$25) from that show in Central Sq because we live in JP, or not being able to close out that bar in Allston for that birthday blowout, because we live in Davis Sq. Etcetera, and so forth.
Now, this T til 3am business is only a yearlong PILOT PROGRAM. It’s a test. An experiment. We are the guinea pigs and we must spin our stupid wheel. The city of Boston needs this. You and I, the residents of Greater Boston, need this. Our nightlife and its accompanying industry needs this. Our art, music and film culture needs this! The metal horde, the indie pop kids, the punks, the weirdos, the late-night workers, the artists, the geeks, the midnite movie freaks, all people of all ages NEED THIS. We can all get together on this. It must succeed, and to do so the late night T must be used by the masses. VOTE WITH YOUR FEET MY PEOPLE.
