If you’re ignoring Haim because you think of them as “that band that’s all over my Facebook newsfeed in those Budweiser ads,” you’re missing out. Each of these three sisters from LA has enough chops to float a band on her own; when you put them together—and add that strange mind-reading glue that binds families—you’ve got some incredible songs and an even better live show. Danielle Haim sings with a Janis Joplin howl and Michael Jackson hiccups while shredding like a tornado. Este has a degree in ethnomusicology and the greatest bass-face in recent memory. Youngest sister Alana does high harmonies and rhythm guitar. Drummer Dash Hutton holds it down in the back. They’re joined by Io Echo, a duo who play city pop songs that hover just above the dirt and grit and rats and hang in the space just above your head, gargoyles lit up by sirens. All at the Paradise Rock Club tonight, helping it live up to its name.
