Kendal, England’s Wild Beasts have been playing together for over a decade. Over this time, they’ve grown a strange jungle around them, made mostly of menacingly patient bass and drums, guitar ornamentation, and Hayden Thorpe’s reedy, villainous vocals. Their songs skulk, quaver, and interrogate tired narratives, and you can still dance to most of them. They’re joined by Jordan Lee’s project Mutual Benefit, whose latest release, Love’s Crushing Diamond, was one of last year’s standouts — a deep, beautiful burner, like a slow-motion sparkler held up to a rich night sky. Lee has been touring it around for a while now, and it’s great to see him back in this city, one of many he has called home. At the Sinclair tonight (get tickets here)!
