HOLY HELL it’s hot – but this garage-y show at O’Briens tonight can be your own personal oasis. The bluesy, 50s-meets-60s-meets-90s sound of The Rich Hands (TX, Fountain Records) refreshes like a gulp of tepache in desert heat: it’s a little sweet, a little sour, a little spicy, and thoroughly quenching. Liquid-smooth vocals and a hint of surf make the punctuated pop of Bent Shapes as delightful as a dip in the cool waters of the Atlantic. And listening to White Pages‘ crashy trashy uptempo beats is like chugging a gallon of the KoolAid you used to make yourself – too much sugar, too much powder – and boppin’ about on an electric scooter. So take a page from your childhood self (s/he was probably cooler than you anyway) and beat the summer heat in the garage – these killer bands will be waiting with the lawnchairs.
