Clothes. Treat yo self. Fragrances. Treat yo self. Mikal Cronin. Treat yo self!
The latest installment of Eye Design‘s Treat Yo Self Series brings a stellar crew to Great Scott. Headliner Mikal Cronin is having a great year– his second full-length, MCII, was released in May by Merge to huge critical acclaim. Previously best-known as being one of Ty Segall‘s longtime pals and band members (their 2009 collaboration album, Reverse Shark Attack, got a re-release earlier this year from In the Red), Cronin surprised many with solo material that is a breezy, poppy departure from the typical NoCal lo-fi garage rock sound. Still: bring earplugs.
It’s also a welcome treat to see Oakland, CA’s Shannon and the Clams roll into town. Their latest album, Dreams in the Rat House, was released last month by Hardly Art. Give it a listen and you’ll swear it’s a girl group from the sixties. Rounding out the opening band crew are Baltimore punks Roomrunner and New Hampshire’s very own garage-rock phenomena The Migs.
And if that’s not enough to pique your interest, well…there will also be art, food, and live DJs. You know what they say: treat yo self.
