Just when you think Villagers are an ‘ordinary’ folk-rock band, they’ll kick something up — a blast of horn, a syncopated piano stab, an opening line like “Naked on the toilet with a toothbrush in his mouth” — that puts them askew of the pack. Lead man Conor O’Brien sings like a man moving doggedly on, and the band backs him up with compositions just roomy and dramatic enough to underscore his restlessness. They’re at Brighton Music Hall tonight, along with openers San Fermin, who are definitely one to watch — they combine dueling chanteuse vocals with rich drumbeats and a slowly building rock orchestra, like a more human Dirty Projectors. Get into it.
