GO TO: TONIGHT (5/9) THE BREEDERS, PARQUET COURTS @ ROYALE

by

The-Breeders-608x341

The Breeders are a supergroup that’s more than the sum of its parts, which is saying a lot, as its parts are primo — Kim Deal (formerly of the Pixies) the group’s slow-beating heart and only constant member, is joined by her twin Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs (The Perfect Disaster) and drummer Jim MacPherson (Guided by Voices). Twenty years ago these stars aligned and recorded Last Splash, a lurching, sludgy, dangerous and fun album anchored by alternate-universe summer jam ‘Cannonball.’ Tonight they’re coming to the Royale to play the whole thing straight through, in an eargasmic display of the timelessness of true rock and roll… but you knew that already, which is why you have tickets. Especially since if you don’t, you can’t get them anymore. Better hope this is the second to last splash. Openers Parquet Courts are from Texas via Brooklyn and sound like it, layering grit, cement, sunshine and vague urban dissatisfaction into crunchy 2-minute strata.
