There’s nothing better on a Friday night than some honest rock tunes – so head on over to DZ, where Midnight Werewolf is putting on a real foot-stomper of a show. Ovlov (Newtown CT, on Exploding In Sound Records) rocks a blend of crunchy grunge and gaze-y progressions, with lyrics that ring nicely off the backtrack without crowding it out. But maybe you need something a little crazier to erase the week? Try Grass is Green (Boston, Exploding In Sound) – mathy and jumpy, these guys know exactly how to blast powerful dissonance and pull it all into staggering resolutions. Sneeze (Boston, Bear Records and Midnight Werewolf) turns up the energy, with more ripping grooves and vocals swoons. And if you’re achin’ for a little rough-and-tumble, Nice Guys rounds out this devilish show with their ecstatic stoner surf punk. Get on it.
