The Middle East Upstairs and Pandahomonym Happening present a Boston-Lowell psych mashup – this show is going to have grit and sway and a little sass. The New Highway Hymnal (Vanya Records) hails from the Great Mill City, bringing a psychpunk repertoire dripping with slide guitar, thick bass, and wailing vocals (the mantra-like lyrics will definitely pull you into their trance). There must be something in the water over there, because the Nick-duo of Big Mess (also from Lowell) have a unique blend of bitey blues and melodic doom that is equally as mesmerizing. Hometown heroes The Fagettes (Allston, on Stimulation Addicts) will have the ‘oohs’ ooin’ and the rotary whirlin’ – you’ll be singing along “I got the shivers, and I got the shakes” – and CreaturoS (Boston, on pRIMORDIAL SOUNDS) will jangle the bones right outa’ ya with their garage-psych vibes.
