For 40 years now, WZBC 90.3 fm has been a bastion of quality independent music broadcasting here in Boston. Steadfast against the gradual decay of the FM bandwith at the grubby hands of Clear Channel and their shameless hordes of computer-generated Top 40 schlock playlists, WZBC stays true to its mission to promote the new, the compelling, the obscure and of course the local music which the listening public’s ears so desperately crave. To celebrate their four decades of existence, ‘the Z’ is hosting a bumpin’ dance party TONIGHT at the Middle East Downstairs with ecstatic electro-percussive duo JAVELIN (NY). With the woozy, floating future bass beats of HOWSE(RI) and the slippery bubblegum funk-pop-disco sheen of SAINT PEPSI, it’ll be hard not to dance along with WZBC’s dedicated and resourceful DJ’s, both fresh-faced students and wrinkly community members. So come down to Central Square, chat up some weirdos, and celebrate the continued existence of independent radio.
