Al Polk of local party-pop mainstays Streight Angular curates a weekly night of psychedelic sights and sounds. Aptly entitled SCOOBY SNACKS, this regular event transforms the usually mundane All Asia bar into a surreal and seductive astral zone, populated with mesmerizing eye candy of THE LYSERGIC FACTORY LIGHTSHOW and the provocative sounds of various local noisemakers. TONIGHT, Al’s picked some real good ones: Whitehaus resident and folk troubadour Pancho the Kidd has slowly emerged from hibernation with a slew of new, heart-wrenching songs that combat creeping feeling of social fragmentation and isolation with a profound sense of restored integrity and a celebration of the human condition. JP mysterio-man RONNIE NORDAC may present a humble, unassuming, even awkward front, but this pose belies Ronnie’s genius for crafting instantly catchty garage pop ditties and a DIY experimental ethos we can all get behind. Fellow local SKYJELLY prances through astral planes with sprawling fuzz guitar escapades that recall the raw rumble of Tuareg protest songs, but jacked on amphetamines. And, as always, DJ Acid Trip will be keeping those hallucinatory vibes flowing between sets. Tuesday never felt so trippy.
