EMILY REO and CUDDLE FORMATION of the loose network of experimental pop weirdos FMLY have just moved to Boston, taking up residence at nearby Dreamhaus, that warm and cozy Allston showspace. Ms. Reo specializes in hazy bedroom pop, combining live-sampled, percussive-focused loops and haunting, listless croons to make ethereal, emotionally evocative songs that transport you that hidden, special place between wake and sleep. C.F. goes even more ambient, with exotic field recordings bleeding into toy piano ditties with plenty of tape hiss and warble. Fortunately these two hypnagogic stargazers are balanced by the psychedelic drone-beats of EAT CLOUD and YOM SAM‘s twisted pop-hop mashup reworks with a hefty dose of bass-heavy backbeats.
