Ultra violent sci-fi brought to you by, perhaps the late 80s/early 90s master of such, director Paul Verhoeven. Cop(Paul Weller just a couple years removed from The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension) is killed and used as the necessary organic component in the Detroit police force’s new techno defense system, ROBOCOP. Of course some of this human’s memories and traits survive even though they were not supposed to. And of course the corporation that created ROBOCOP is not as benign as they made the good people of Detroit think they were. This film is funny, looks great, and is still shockingly violent at times. It also features some great robot fighting. Miguel Ferrer(from Twin Peaks), and Kurtwood Smith are great as villians, and Nancy Allen(Dressed To Kill) is also pretty good as the dead cop’s former partner. Verhoeven made Total Recall next and then basically sprinted toward sucking. Awesome chance to see a very fun movie on the BIG SCREEN! DO THIS! They serve beer @ the Somerville Theater for christsakes.
