Climate change. Urban sprawl. Hungry pandas. These days, Mother Earth is taking a lot of punches. You can sit back and watch it happen — or you can sit forward and watch DIY DYSTOPIA, a batch of experimental short features screened by the conscientious curators over at Balagan Films. Six filmmakers comment on our planet’s predicament by directly messing with their chosen medium — burning celluloid, paving over 16mm, leaving emulsion out to rot. The results will pollute your brain with rich textures, unexpected colors, and a certain visceral understanding. It all goes down at the historic Brattle Theater in Harvard Square, because no one wants to watch the world end from the cheap seats. Featuring a locally-produced zine courtesy of the Papercut Zine Library and music by JP noisejumblers Duck That.
