Have yourself a truly SICK sunday with a twisted night of rock-‘n-‘somethin’-or-other on tap at ~Deep Thoughts~ JP TONIGHT! Riding a recent (no) wave of positive attention from Bard College in New York into the beyond, which thankfully includes our little corner of urban persistence, are three piece, post-punk dismantlers Palberta. If the prospect of a group switching off instruments, belting out deranged sing-a-longs over punk fragments interests you, then you probably already know about this band. They make me wonder: how many ways you can utilize the standard, rock, three-piece set up? How many ways can you rearrange the relationship between the players in a group without losing that magical sense of charismatic “voice” or “style”? Each Palberta track accomplishes just that, giving you a vivid sense of wondrous aggression that seems to rely on the spontaneous as a guiding, dare say CONSTANT principle, giving their fragmented aesthetic a true sense of downright musical unity.
Palberta’s friends, split-mates, and tour-buddies (NE) Patriots will be dropping back into their natural habitat to let their signature insanity reign down upon all in attendance. The energy level that is reached within a matter of 10 seconds with this band is kind of terrifying, with all the shrieking and recorder madness, chorus pedal wizadry warbling off into some hellish, cosmic realm reserved only for frontman Colby and perhaps a few other demonic (angelic?) cats. There is something transcendent about their particular brand of chaos, though it is firmly grounded in snarling punk guitar and drums. They push towards something else, an incorporeal force for whom they simply have to create these noise rock adventures.
Rounding off the bill is Tig Bitty, purveyors of some seriously sexually-charged beats and hooks coming to us all the way from Portland, OR. Their bass bumps and their percussion pops, all in the name of getting you to shake that damn thang of yours from the moment they start performing.
So make your way out to Jamaica Plain for a super-duper Sunday bill! The vibes, the sounds, the things, the THOUGHTS, will surely be DEEP, so don’t miss out!
